string pillow

Monday, May 18, 2009

I’m tempted to sew an entire quilt with this pattern, but for now I’m thrilled with this little throw pillow for our guest room. One of my favorite crafty blogs is Film In the Fridge, and I thought her sting quilt was so beautiful... but I was also intrigued with her paper-pieced tutorial that I had to give it a try. I really love how it turned out.

potluck dinner

Sunday, May 17, 2009

Nothing too crafty about this, other than my new tablecloth that I dressed for a backyard dinner with my girl friends. These are my girls that I’ve known since elementary school days, and I love them dearly. (Left to Right: Betsy, Amy, Krissy, Calley (and Mirabel) and Me).

blue slippers

Friday, May 8, 2009

How about this little guy and his fancy new shirt for the BlueSlippers homepage? (Someday I’ll update that site.) I took a machine-applique class, and this was my first project testing out the new skills. Soren is the cutest kid ever, seriously.

peanut butter cup cookies

Monday, May 4, 2009

These cookies are my new favorite treat, and I can never eat just one (or two). After you bake the peanut butter cookies in a mini muffin tin, plop a miniature Reese’s cup in the center. Here’s the recipe from AllRecipes.com (it says it makes 15 cookies, but with mini muffins you can make nearly 30).

fashion in film

Thursday, April 30, 2009

Last week I caught the exhibit “Fashion In Film” at the Taft Museum. It was beautiful. Part of the awe was knowing that my favorite actresses wore these beautiful dresses in movies that I had seen.  Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Gwyneth Paltrow... on and on. The design and detail of every costume was gorgeous, and so

well constructed... it made me want to sign up for fashion school. I didn’t take any pictures, but I found a website that posted photos of all the dresses.

birdie-sling-mail-sack

Friday, April 24, 2009

I made up my own pattern for a purse by combining the looks of Pink Chalk Studio’s mail sack, and Amy Butler’s birdie sling. I wanted a small bag with an adjustable strap, and pockets on the inside and out. I like how it turned out, so I saved the pattern that I scribbled on wrapping paper... and I used my favorite fabric once again.

retro spaceships

Sunday, April 19, 2009

Seems like I make a lot of baby gifts. Well... anything miniature is automatically cute; smaller projects finish faster; and just about every month I’m attending a baby shower. This matching burp cloth and bib is for my sweet friend Alison who is due in June.

baby jacob

Thursday, April 16, 2009

I love making blankets for babies, and this one goes to Erin and Peter’s little boy, Jacob. He arrived just a few weeks ago, and I had to wait to find out if I was going to make a blanket for a boy or girl. Sewing gender-neutral blankets are no fun for me... so I’ve learned to patiently wait for the announcement before I dive in.

spring?

Sunday, April 5, 2009

I’m so happy that the trees and bulbs are in bloom right now. Our yard looks great, and I’m so pleased to see all the tulips popping up around our house. BUT, the forecast is calling for snow tomorrow... bumms me out.
