coupon wallet

Saturday, March 28, 2009

We clip coupons in our household, but too many times I’ve found myself at the grocery store without them. So, with my most favorite fabric from Denyse Schmidt, I made an envelope to hold all my coupons.

new buttons

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

How can I share something crafty about my trip to Las Vegas... hmm?  Before we left, I bought a new jacket from Old Navy. I liked everything about it except the big brown safari buttons, so I switched them out with black buttons. I sported the new jacket this weekend on vacation with our friends Jon and Jamie. We saw a few shows, lost two dollars in slot machines, ate lots of food, and toured Hoover Dam.

coffee cozy

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

I like to visit other blogs for sewing ideas, and I’m in the mood for projects that I can do in one evening. I found this pattern for a coffee cozy on House On Hill Road and improvised a little with the button.

activity blanket

Monday, March 2, 2009

I just visited my sister’s family in Gig Harbor, and I gave Soren an activity blanket that I sewed for him. I designed it with velcro, buttons, zippers, beads, buckles, shoe laces, pockets, and different textured fabrics. I really loved this Alexander Henry print, so I also made a tote bag for Soren.

Part of my visit was attending the Sewing Expo with Linnea and her friend Allison. It was a fun day and inspiring for us crafty ladies.

buttercream icing

Thursday, February 19, 2009

I’m in search of the perfect homemade icing, and I think I’m close (thanks Martha). Three sticks of butter, one pound of confectioner’s sugar, and half teaspoon of vanilla = oh my goodness, sugar coma.

I used the icing recipe for the mini cupcakes I made for Easter. I liked the presentation... putting the cupcakes in a egg carton.

snow day!

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Snow days make me happy... and all I want to do is bake and sew when I’m surprised with an empty day. So today, I made a few birds from the popular Spool, and I also made shortbread cookies with royal icing.

soren’s birthday banner

Friday, February 13, 2009

My nephew turns 1 years old today, and I wish I could be with him to celebrate. I sent out a birthday banner to help decorate for the party - its made with colorful fabrics and fleece. Happy Birthday, Soren!  We love you, and I can’t wait to see in you in a few weeks!

baby noah

Thursday, January 22, 2009

My mom and I hosted a baby shower for my friend Amy, and planning the decorations for her shower was so fun! Amy’s style and colors don’t meet the typical light blue for this baby boy... the nursery is bright orange, blue and green.

So of course, I had to make a blanket for this little guy with the fun colors. I bought all the fabric at Quiltology in Chicago, and it sewed it together with this year’s Christmas gift - a new sewing machine! The challenge I set before me with this blanket was attempting “free motion” quilting. So, with a new machine designed for quilting, I went for it! I’m happy with the squiggly lines my machine can do.

fabric magnets

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

I made these tiny fabric magnets (3/4 inch) with button covers. Instead of using the back of the button, I hot-glued a magnet to the back side. They made nice little Christmas gifts for my friends.
